Thrifty Special Car Notes
THRIFTY SURCHARGES:
Aloha Hawaii Vacationers
We get many inquiries about the Thrifty car rentals web site saying there are surcharges for underage and additional drivers. When you click on my corporate discount link, https://www.thrifty.com/index.aspx?iata=00142150&pc=2150 from our web site, www.HawaiiCarRentals.net, and make a reservation, in the fine print Thrifty says there WILL BE a surcharge for additional or underage drivers 21-24 (at least 21 years old and under 25 years old - aka 21-24).
Thrifty states the following Terms & Conditions regarding surcharges for age and additional drivers:
If you call Thrifty at their regular 800 number (or fill out the Thrifty form that you got to by clicking on the Thrifty link from our web site), the Thrifty web site and pretty much everyone you speak to at Thrifty is NOT aware of these special Hawaii Only arrangements. They will tell you that you WILL be charged. However, this is not the case. Thrifty Hawaii has its own special competitive programs unique to Hawaii and the people at the mainland Thrifty call centers are not always aware of these special offers.
Regardless of what is said in the fine print, please be assured that the age 21-24 and additional driver fees are both waived. This web site has a special arrangement with Thrifty to NOT charge for these things. HawaiiCarRentals.net has what is called a "Hawaii Thrifty Traveler" account and we get special discount rates and considerations that we pass on to you (if you rent a Hawaii car through this web site). You do not need to present any sort of coupon to get this fee waived. It is simply waived.
My Dollar/Thrifty representative has assured me more than once that anyone renting through HawaiiCarRentals.net will NOT be charged. (NOTE: Dollar Thrifty is the same company and it is called DTG or DTAG - Dollar Thrifty Auto Group)
I will paste my most recent emails to my DTAG representative below. I will also give you some other phone numbers below to call to confirm if you like. If you do call them, be sure to tell them that you rented from a "Hawaii Thrifty Traveler" web site with Promo Code #PC2150.
SPECIALS & HOT DEALS BUTTON: When people are making their reservations, a Specials or Hot Deals
button sometimes appears. If you click that button, you can definitely take advantage of the offer. However, if you
do click the Specials or Hot Deals
button, you will lose the
waivers from my web site of no surcharge for age 21-24 and no surcharge for additional drivers.
Given that a one-week car rental for 21-24 will be an additional $175 added to the base rate (plus taxes and fees), it appears that if you are someone who clicked the Specials or Hot Deals
button, and are 21-24, you would probably be better off without the Specials or Hot Deals discounts. If you did
click the button and would like to go back and make a different reservation, here's my corporate discount link:
https://www.thrifty.com/index.aspx?iata=00142150&pc=2150
(Don’t forget to cancel your original reservation) I'm sorry for this discrepancy.
Have fun in Hawaii!

If you wish to call and confirm that the Additional Driver Fee is Waived and/or the 21-24 Underage Fee is Waived, please call either of the following two numbers. * Be sure to mention that you have booked or are going to book through a "Hawaii Thrifty Traveler account web site" with Promo Code #PC2150. If they ask for my IATA number, that number is 00142150. If you have already made your reservation, have your reservation number available so they can look it up if necessary.

Hi, Steve!
Both Dollar Saver and Thrifty Traveler renters get a 59-minute grace period. (2007 only, but NOT in 2008)
Dollar Saver does not . . . Sorry this is so confusing.
